viewpoints in Scotland looking North
to Perthshire, Callander, Stirling Wallace

of Arran >
South to Coatbridge, the Borders area East to Grangemouth, Edinburgh
the Forth Bridges and the Kingdom
of Fife >

of minor roads wind - for clarity these are not all shown on the map
on the road from Fintry > to Denny > ( B818 ) is the Carron Valley Reservoir
which offers secluded picnic spots and woodland walks along the waterside
The road runs for 4 miles along the reservoir, water supply for Falkirk > and Grangemouth >
and is a popular fishing spot
The small hamlet of Carron Bridge lies at the east end of
Carron
Valley Reservoir

The hill is a prominent local landmark
Normally on well signposted walks we dont bother with map references however on this occassion
we would advise you to take, Landranger 64 or Landranger 57 as there are various routes you can take

From Glasgow: follow the M80 / A80 out of the city to junction 4, signposted Kilsyth
Leave the A80 at junction 4 and join the A803. Follow this to the junction with the A872
signposted Denny. Follow the A872 into Denny, Look on the left for the junction with the B818
signposted Fintry. Follow the B818 for about 8km, The Carron Valley Car Park is on the left

From Edinburgh: head west out of the city on the A8 to the Newbridge roundabout
Join the M9 and follow it to junction 8, Leave at junction 8 and join the M876
signposted Glasgow.Leave the M876 at junction 1 and join the A883
Follow the A883 through Denny and at the junction with the A872, bear left
Follow the A872 for about half a kilometre and look for the junction with the
B818 on the right, signposted Fintry, Follow the B818 for about 8km

Carron Valley Car Park is on the left, about 2km past The Carronbridge
Hotel
From Stirling: join the A872 at junction 9 of the M80 ( Stirling Services roundabout )
Follow the A872 south to Denny, At the junction with the A883 in Denny, bear right
staying on the A872. Follow the road for another half kilometre and look for the junction
with the B818 on the right, signposted Fintry, Follow the B818 for about 8km

THE WALKS
Dont Get Lost Take A Copy With You
The distance from Tomtain Summit to Meikle Bin Summit = 3.3 miles / 5.4 km west

From the Carronbridge Hotel you can see Tomtain 1486ft / 453m
You can either walk down the Tack Ma Doon road to the top of the hill
or drive down to the Tack Ma Doon Viewpoint car park, ( aprox 1 mile )
leave the car cross the road over fence
walk up to the summit, the views are quite spectacular
there is another path up which starts near
the Kilsyth Golf Course >
if you look west you can see the Meikle Bin 1870ft / 570m
the highest point in the Campsie Fells you can walk along the ridge
from Tomtain to the Meikel Bin = 3.3miles / 5.4km.
Or you can drive to the far western end of the
Carron Valley Reservoir and walk up to Meikle Bin.
There are also good walks in the Carron Valley Forest

The Meikle Bin - Tomtain walk is not really suitable for disabled or less adgile ramblers
However there are reasonably level paths on the lower walk in the Carron Valley Forest
round the Carron Reservoir, follow directions above
Dont miss out on the Magnificent Views drive down to the Tak Ma Doon Viewpoint car park
look east-left to see Grangemouth Edinburgh the Forth Bridges and the Kingdom of Fife
look west - right to see Glasgow and the Isle of Arran
east to west distance aprox 90 miles
