the town centres look at the architecture of the old buildings look above
the shop fronts
some
of the buildings are amazing with intricate details carved into the stones
just
like the Anderson
& McAuley's building in Belfast
lookout
for wildlife around the high street how many different types of birds can
you spot
can
you spot an urban Fox or Squirrel foraging for food thats been dropped,

have seen urban Foxes
in Glasgow,Edinburgh,Manchester
& Birmingham
we
have been told that they are also in Belfast,
if
you are walking between Towns you will most likely see Cows,Sheep Horses,
different
types of Birds not
the ones you spotted in town
You
may see Deer
especially near clumps of trees they like to hide during the day
best
time to see them is early morning and early
evening,

Barley
for making
Bushmills

there names,find out where they start from

off the M1 motorway
start
at Albert Bridge

This
9 mile Walk Starts
on the Albert Bridge
in Belfast the
route soon joins Ulster Way
(UW)
as it emerges from the suburbs of south-east Belfast but deviates slightly
from UW
at
the M I Motorway
The
walk is nearly all on the towpath
of the canal and canalized river which opened in 1763.
Plants
to note: Himalayan balsam,
purple loosestrife, horsetails,
comfrey
butterbur
(like giant rhubarb). Late summer duckweed
on
the water surface looks like a
bright
green carpet
Waterside
birds include moorhens,
coots, dab chicks,
mallards. Listen for the magpie's
rattle
and the occasional shrill pipe of kingfishers.
Cross
to the north bank at Shaw's Bridge.
Look out for squirrels in
the splendid trees opposite.
Recommended
side visits: Edenderry village
(and up to the Giant's Ring through the field gate),
Drumbeg
church, Dixon Park.

most of this walk follows
the old canal tow path from Belfast to Lisburn
and should be suitable
for all ages abilities its 9 miles there is a regular
bus service
for your return
journey to Belfast
