Directions To Get Here

From Edinburgh follow the A1 south - take the A198

clearly signposted Gullane - North Berwick

 from the south follow the A1 north to the Dunbar

Then  follow tourist signs to North Berwick

Gullane is 4 miles further on the A198

Parking - Gullane Bents - car park

THE WALK

This Walk = 5 miles aprox 2.5 hours

Conditions = Shoreline paths & Sandy Beach

Refreshments / Toilets = Gullane & Dirleton

Start  Facing Gullane Bay from the car park walk to the right across grassy area to join a gravel track leading from the road

as the track narrows, continue ahead between pine trees and shrubbery, then keep right and continue ahead at the horseshoe sign

at a second horseshoe sign turn right and continue between high bushes, at next fork bear right and stay by fence of

Muirfield Golf Course pass a green hut and follow grassy path ahead past the footpath to Gullane sign
 

turn left on the the track alongside the golf course, when this track swings sharply left you go straight on

on a rougher track to the dunes, continue about half a mile to a woodland with shore to the left

keep on the path that briefly follows the edge of the woodland before crossing open ground continue to reach wood again

go down to the shore and walk along the shoreline with rocky island Fidra visible ahead and islet of Eyebroughly off shore

near the end of the cliffs and beach, climb onto clear path, passing a wartime observation post and round the fence of Marina Villa

Craigleith and the Bass Rock can be seen ahead fidra is just off shore often surrounded by Eider Ducks

continue ahead across the beach and a headland, there are several paths here but keep left at any forks and stay close to the shore

on reaching open beach take any path heading to the right to pick up track to the car park

pass the car park and take the path beside the road to Dirleton 1 mile

at the road junction turn right to village centre to see Dirleton Castle

Decision time you can now retrace your steps to Gullane

or take the number 124 bus back to Gullane it runs every 30 minutes

**Disabled & Less Agile Ramblers**

Most of this walk is on sandy foreshore and may not be suitable for all

however there are many suitable walks in this area
